About the job
The Transport Controller is responsible for supervising daily delivery and collection operations, ensuring on‑time departures, vehicle compliance, and continuous communication with drivers while maintaining adherence to company policies and standard operating procedures.
Key Performance Areas: Successful candidate will be responsible for :
- Ensuring all drivers report for duty at their scheduled times to prevent late departures and unnecessary early clock‑ins that may result in overtime.
- Providing direct day‑to‑day supervision to approximately 50 employees.
- Ensuring full compliance with standard operating procedures, company policies, and operational instructions.
- Promptly escalate all delays or operational challenges to the Transport Manager and Sales Department.
- Ensuring accurate completion of pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections, signed off by the controller on duty.
- Notifying the workshop of all vehicle defects and ensure issues are addressed promptly.
- Conducting daily vehicle inspection checks jointly with drivers.
- Continuously monitor vehicles in transit using the tracking systems.
- Maintaining consistent communication with drivers while they are on route.
- Immediately follow up on route deviations, alerts, or incidents identified via the vehicle tracking system.
Knowledge and Skills: The qualifications and competencies required for this position include
- Matric (Umalusi) or equivalent qualification (compulsory).
- SP2 NOM qualification (essential).
- Minimum of 3 years’ supervisory experience, preferably within a logistics or transport environment.
- Strong analytical skills with sound mathematical ability.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of C‑Track and other logistics‑related systems.
- Knowledge of Sparrow.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with internal departments.
- A Logistics/Transport qualification and a Code 14 driver’s licence with PrDP will be advantageous.
